Why We Started
Mid-deadlift. Third set. 180kg on the bar.
I'd just placed my phone on the bench next to me—like I always did. But this time, someone walked by, bumped the bench, and my phone hit the floor.
Screen: shattered. $1,200 gone.
But it wasn't just the money. It was the frustration of not having a proper solution.
The Problem Every Gym-Goer Faces
That moment forced me to confront a question I'd never really considered:
"Where am I supposed to put my phone at the gym?"
- Gym bag? Too far away when you need to change songs or check your form
- Pockets? Uncomfortable during squats, falls out during box jumps, gets drenched in sweat
- Floor? Absolutely disgusting—gym floors carry 362 times more bacteria than toilet seats (yes, we fact-checked)
- Benches? Unstable and easily knocked off
There was no good solution. Until KLNK.
The "Aha" Moment
A few weeks after my phone incident, I was at the gym doing cable flyes. I'd placed my phone on top of the machine—right on the metal frame—and thought:
"What if it could just... stick there?"
Magnets. That was it.

From Prototype to Product: The KLNK Development Process
We didn't rush to market. We spent 6 months perfecting KLNK:

Tested 15 different magnet types from suppliers across Asia
N52 neodymium magnets proved to be the strongest—holding up to 2kg securely
Tested on every type of gym equipment: squat racks, cable machines, treadmills, Smith machines, lockers
Material Selection (Month 3-4)
Chose premium 3mm neoprene for durability and water resistance (same material used in wetsuits)
Selected microfiber interior lining to protect phone screens from scratches
Insisted on YKK zippers because cheap zippers break and ruin products
Field Testing (Months 4-5)
Distributed prototypes to 50 gym-goers across Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane
Gathered feedback on size, functionality, and durability
Refined design based on real-world use
Final Design (Month 6)
Perfected the dimensions: 17cm × 10cm × 2cm—the ideal size for phones plus essentials
Added bonus key pocket for cards and locker keys
Finalized matte black aesthetic with KLNK branding
